Dragon’s Dogma 2 Second Anniversary Artwork Teases New Expansion
Capcom appears to be teasing a major expansion for Dragon’s Dogma 2 with new second anniversary artwork. Dragon’s Dogma 2 expansion tease features a letter written in Gransys language that fans have translated. The letter reads: “Sightings of griffins flying in from the northern region of Organ have been confirmed.” Item descriptions and loading screens in the base game also mention a northern region never visited. An apparently new character stands with their back turned in the anniversary artwork. The image has sparked widespread speculation about an upcoming expansion. Two years have passed since DD2 debuted with fairly strong reviews. Capcom has provided practically no updates on additional content since launch.
What the Tease Could Mean
The northern region of Organ would be a completely new area to explore. This could be equivalent to Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen for the first game. That enhanced version came out a year after the original’s initial launch. It is more fondly remembered than the base game by many fans.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 saw respectable sales with 3.7 million units in its first year. However, the game faded quickly despite its strong initial reception. A persistent complaint has been a severe lack of enemy variety. Performance issues were mitigated post-launch but not completely resolved.
What an Expansion Could Deliver
A Dark Arisen equivalent could help turn the game’s reputation around. The first game needed its expansion to become the beloved classic it is today. More content would address the shortcomings that critics and fans noted. New areas, enemies, and quests would breathe fresh life into DD2.
An enhanced version or traditional expansion would both be welcome additions. The potential of Dragon’s Dogma 2 is plain to see in its current state. It fell short just like its predecessor in many ways. A new expansion could be exactly what the game needs.
