Sindh smart lockdown plan amid fuel crisis concerns

Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah said the government is reviewing a Sindh smart lockdown plan to save fuel. He shared this update while speaking to media in Rohri. The move comes as global oil prices rise due to regional conflict.
He explained that the chief minister leads a committee on austerity measures. The team meets daily, both in person and online. As a result, officials continue to explore ways to reduce fuel use.

Fuel Saving Measures Intensify

The provincial government has already cut fuel allowances for official vehicles by 60 percent. In addition, officials have urged citizens to limit unnecessary travel. Shah stressed that saving fuel now will help in the long run. He warned that prolonged conflict could affect everyone, including Pakistan. Moreover, he said the energy sector will face the first major impact. Since fuel prices affect all goods, rising costs could hit households quickly.
Therefore, he asked the public to reduce the use of petrol, oil, and gas. He also encouraged the media to spread awareness about conservation. According to him, collective action can ease pressure on resources.

Austerity Drive Expands

Earlier, the Sindh government introduced several austerity steps. For example, schools closed for spring vacations from March 16 to 31. Meanwhile, colleges and universities shifted to online classes.
In addition, government offices started remote work on Fridays. Authorities also limited wedding gatherings to 200 guests with a one-dish rule. These steps aim to cut energy use and manage costs.
Last week, before Eidul Fitr, officials again urged the public to conserve fuel. As a result, the Sindh smart lockdown plan remains under consideration as part of broader efforts.
