ECTN Awards 2026 Call for Entries: Sustainable Cultural Tourism in Europe
The European Cultural Tourism Network (ECTN) has opened its 2026 Awards call for entries. The theme focuses on sustainable tourism strategy and culture for Europe. The awards celebrate achievements in regenerative, smart, and resilient cultural tourism. The deadline to apply is May 15, 2026.
ECTN organizes the awards in partnership with Europa Nostra. The European Travel Commission and NECSTouR also support the initiative. ENAT, Europeana, and the Creative Tourism Network are additional partners. The awards continue the legacy of the 2018 European Year of Cultural Heritage.
Six Thematic Categories for 2026
The 2026 Awards address six specific heritage-related aspects. Applicants must choose one category for their submission.
First, Resilience in Sustainable Cultural Tourism focuses on natural heritage. It includes green transition and climate action initiatives.
Second, Creative Tourism and Co-Created Experiences highlights co-creation and skills exchange. Authentic local community engagement is key.
Third, Digitalisation in Smart Tourism covers cultural heritage and creativity. It focuses on enhancing visitor experiences through technology.
Fourth, Transnational Thematic Tourism Products involve cultural routes and heritage networks. Cross-border initiatives with at least two countries qualify.
Fifth, Active, Slow and Accessible Cultural Tourism promotes low-impact mobility. Walking, cycling, and inclusive access are central themes.
Sixth, Regenerative Cultural Tourism focuses on heritage-led destination regeneration. Initiatives that restore cultural, social, and ecological systems are eligible.
Who Can Apply and Key Dates
The awards are open to tourist destinations across Europe. National, regional, and local authorities can apply. Tourism boards, associations, and destination management organizations are eligible. Museums, heritage sites, and cultural routes are also welcome. Festivals and cultural NGOs may submit entries as well.
Applicants must present projects completed within the past three years. The goal is to identify examples of excellence. These inspire other destinations and stimulate sustainable development.
Winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony in September. The event takes place during the 19th International Conference for Cultural Tourism. It will be held on Skiathos island in Greece from September 23 to 26, 2026.
Selected finalists receive an invitation to the conference. The organizer waives the conference fee for up to two persons per finalist. However, travel and accommodation costs are not reimbursed. The awards celebrate innovation and best practices in cultural tourism across Europe.
