Al Jazeera Condemns Killing of Journalist in Gaza
Al Jazeera has condemned the killing of one of its journalists. The incident happened in the Gaza Strip. The network described it as a “deliberate and targeted crime”.
A Deadly Drone Strike
Mohammed Wishah worked as a correspondent for Al Jazeera Mubasher. He and one other person died in a drone strike on Wednesday. The attack hit a vehicle in Gaza City. Local health officials confirmed the deaths.
Israel’s Allegation
The Israeli military had a different version of events. They alleged that Wishah was a “Hamas terrorist”. They said he posed a threat to their forces. Therefore, they carried out the strike.Al Jazeera has not responded to this claim yet. However, the network has denied similar allegations before. Hamas has also denied that Wishah was affiliated with them.
Journalists Under Fire
The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) also spoke out. They condemned Wishah’s killing “in the strongest possible terms”.Wishah is the 11th Al Jazeera journalist killed since the war began. A fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has been in place for six months. Despite that, violence against reporters continues.
