Pakistan Ethiopia Djibouti Trade Alliance Gains Momentum for Regional Connectivity

Pakistan Ethiopia Djibouti Trade Alliance Gains Momentum for Regional Connectivity

Pakistan is exploring a Pakistan Ethiopia trade alliance to boost regional trade. The plan also includes Djibouti as a key partner. This move aims to improve sea connectivity and open new markets. As a result, trade between Asia and Africa could grow faster.

High Level Talks Strengthen Cooperation

Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry met Oumer Hussien Oba to discuss the proposal. Both sides showed strong interest in working together. They agreed to explore a joint maritime framework. In addition, experts will now study practical ways to implement the plan.

Why Djibouti Plays a Key Role

Ethiopia is landlocked, so it depends on nearby ports. Therefore, Djibouti offers a strategic gateway for trade. This setup can help Ethiopia expand imports and exports more efficiently. For example, it already imports rice, garments, and medical goods from Pakistan.
Pakistan continues to strengthen ties with African nations. The government has also improved port performance in recent years. Cargo handling capacity has increased significantly. As a result, Pakistan can support larger trade volumes and faster shipping.

Future Expansion on the Horizon

Officials believe the Pakistan Ethiopia trade alliance could grow further. However, more discussions are needed before final approval.
In the future, additional countries may join this initiative. Consequently, regional trade and connectivity could reach new levels.
