Sindh Business Hours Policy Revised to Save Energy Across Province
The Sindh government introduced a new Sindh business hours policy to reduce energy consumption. Officials announced revised timings for markets and commercial activities. As a result, authorities aim to manage electricity demand more efficiently.
Under the policy, markets in most districts will close at 8pm. However, shops in divisional headquarters, including Karachi, can remain open until 9pm. This approach supports both business activity and energy savings.
New Timings and Key Exemptions
The government exempted essential services from the Sindh business hours policy. These include tandoors, medical stores, milk shops, bakeries, and petrol pumps. Therefore, residents will continue to access daily necessities without disruption.
Restaurants and hotels will operate from 7pm to 11:30pm. Meanwhile, wedding halls and banquet facilities can function from 8pm to midnight. In addition, home delivery and takeaway services in Karachi will continue without restrictions.
Authorities have directed commissioners and deputy commissioners to enforce the rules. They will work closely with law enforcement agencies. As a result, officials expect strict and uniform implementation across the province.
Nationwide Energy Conservation Efforts
Earlier, the federal government introduced similar measures in other regions. These include Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Markets there must close by 8pm.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reviewed these measures in a recent meeting. He focused on austerity, fuel use, and regional challenges. Therefore, the Sindh business hours policy aligns with broader national goals.
Overall, the policy promotes energy conservation while supporting essential services and economic activity.
