Punjab Launches Cyber Crime Unit with Victim-Friendly Reporting System
Punjab has approved a new Punjab cyber crime unit to tackle rising online offences. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved the decision during a high-level meeting. As a result, the province aims to strengthen digital safety and improve victim support.
Officials shared that the new unit will focus on faster response to cybercrime cases. In addition, authorities will introduce a victim-friendly complaint system to make reporting easier and safer.
Mobile and Virtual Reporting for Victims
Under the Punjab cyber crime unit plan, child victims of blackmail and harassment will receive direct support. Therefore, they will not need to visit police stations or government offices. Instead, mobile teams will reach affected children at safe locations.
The government will also launch a virtual police station system. Victims, especially women, will file complaints online. Moreover, authorities will protect their identities to ensure complete confidentiality.
Officials said this approach will reduce fear and encourage reporting. As a result, more victims can seek justice without hesitation.
Stronger Laws and Digital Protection
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed officials to prepare new legislation. This law will ensure strict punishment for cyber offenders. Therefore, authorities aim to deter online harassment and digital crimes.
The government stressed that digital safety remains a top priority. In addition, it plans to improve coordination between law enforcement and cyber experts.
Overall, the Punjab cyber crime unit marks a major step toward safer online spaces. However, officials say successful implementation will require strong monitoring and public awareness.
