Pakistan Saudi Relations Strengthen as Shehbaz Meets MBS
Pakistan Saudi relations moved forward as Shehbaz Sharif met Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah. The prime minister thanked Saudi Arabia for supporting Pakistan’s economic stability. As a result, both sides reaffirmed their strong partnership.
The meeting followed a major financial commitment from Saudi Arabia. Finance officials confirmed a $3 billion deposit, expected soon. In addition, the existing $5 billion deposit will now stay for a longer period.
Economic Support and Defense Partnership
Shehbaz Sharif praised Saudi leadership for its continued support. He highlighted the close defense and security ties between the two countries. Therefore, both nations agreed to expand cooperation further.
In September 2025, the two sides signed a strategic defense agreement. This pact treats any aggression against one country as a threat to both. Moreover, Saudi authorities recently confirmed that Pakistan deployed fighter jets and forces to support security efforts.
Officials described the partnership between Islamabad and Riyadh as strong and lasting. As a result, both countries continue to deepen cooperation in key sectors.
Regional Diplomacy and Ongoing Visits
The prime minister also discussed Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in the region. He stressed his commitment to encouraging dialogue between the US and Iran. In addition, he thanked the Saudi crown prince for supporting peace initiatives.
Currently, Shehbaz Sharif is on a three-nation tour. He will also visit Qatar and Turkey to strengthen regional ties.
Earlier, tensions between the US and Iran remained unresolved after lengthy talks. The conflict has raised global concerns and affected oil prices. Therefore, Pakistan continues to push for peaceful solutions.
During his visit, the prime minister also traveled to Madinah. He offered prayers at Masjid an-Nabawi and prayed for peace and prosperity.
He will next travel to Doha to meet Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. This visit forms part of broader diplomatic efforts to promote regional stability.
