Man Arrested After Shooting at White House Correspondents’ Dinner Hotel

Man Arrested After Shooting at White House Correspondents’ Dinner Hotel

A man has been arrested after shots were fired inside a hotel. The hotel was hosting the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday night. Law enforcement officials named the suspect as Cole Tomas Allen.

A Scare at a Major Event

He is 31 years old. He comes from Torrance in the Los Angeles region, California. Security agents detained him inside the Washington Hilton hotel.

Targeting Administration Officials

Two sources told CBS about the suspect’s statement. Allen said he wanted to shoot officials in the Trump administration. Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche spoke on NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday. Blanche said the motive was still under investigation. However, “preliminary” findings suggested he was targeting administration officials. That “likely” included President Donald Trump.

Weapon Assembled in the Hotel

Blanche said investigators are looking at reports that Allen assembled the weapon in the hotel. He stressed that the suspect “didn’t get very far”. “He barely broke the perimeter,” Blanche added. The suspect likely travelled by train from Los Angeles to Chicago, and then to Washington DC.
