PIA Gets Financial Relief: Govt Approves Funds for Salaries & Pensions

The federal government has approved new financial support for Pakistan International Airlines. The move aims to clear pending employee payments. These include salaries, pensions, and medical bills. As a result, the decision offers immediate relief to staff and the airline.

ECC Approves Targeted Funding for PIA

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) took the decision on Monday. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb chaired the meeting. The committee reviewed a summary from the Ministry of Defence. It focused on the financial needs of the PIA Holding Company.
Officials proposed a total allocation of Rs. 5.985 billion. However, the ECC approved only specific payments. It directed funds toward salaries, pensions, and medical expenses for Pakistan International Airlines Corporation Limited. In addition, the government aimed to reduce financial stress on the national carrier. Therefore, the approval targets urgent liabilities instead of broader funding gaps.

Additional Review and Financial Adjustments

The ECC also discussed related financial matters. It instructed officials to review payments involving the National Insurance Company Limited. The committee asked for adjustments through the relevant revenue authority. Moreover, authorities will align the process with audit recommendations. This step aims to improve financial transparency and compliance.
In conclusion, the decision reflects continued government support for PIA. However, the airline still faces long-term financial challenges. The approved PIA financial support helps ease short-term pressure, but structural reforms may still be needed to ensure stability.
