Pakistan F-16 Upgrade Included in $488M US Radar Support Deal
The Pakistan F-16 upgrade programme has gained momentum through a $488 million contract. The United States Air Force awarded the deal to Northrop Grumman. This agreement falls under the Foreign Military Sales programme. It aims to improve radar systems and strengthen operational readiness. As a result, Pakistan and other partner countries will benefit from long-term technical support.
Radar Systems and Global Partners
The contract focuses on APG-66 and APG-68 radar systems used in F-16 jets. These systems support navigation, tracking, and targeting during missions. Therefore, upgrades will help maintain high performance and reliability.
The project will take place in Linthicum Heights, Maryland. It will continue through March 2036, showing a long-term commitment. In addition, several countries are part of this programme. These include Bahrain, Egypt, Greece, Indonesia, Israel, Jordan, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Thailand, and Turkey.
This broad participation strengthens defence ties among partner nations. Moreover, it improves coordination during joint operations. As a result, allied air forces can respond more effectively to shared security challenges.
Ongoing Defense Collaboration
The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center at Hill Air Force Base manages the contract. Officials awarded it on April 27, 2026. Therefore, it marks another step in expanding defence cooperation.
Earlier, the United States approved a $686 million support package for Pakistan in December 2025. That package included Link-16 systems, secure communication tools, and avionics upgrades. It also covered training programmes and logistical support.
These efforts aim to modernise Pakistan’s F-16 fleet. They will improve safety, efficiency, and mission readiness. Overall, this initiative supports long-term strategic goals and strengthens defence partnerships.
