US and Morocco Search for Missing Soldiers After African Lion Drill
US and Moroccan forces are searching for missing American soldiers.
A Search Underway
The service members disappeared during the African Lion 2026 exercise. Officials said they were reported missing on Saturday. The soldiers were last seen near the Cap Draa Training Area. That area is close to the city of Tan Tan in Morocco.
Joint Rescue Mission
Africom is leading the search. The mission involves ground, air, and maritime resources. The US, Morocco, and other countries are helping.
“The incident remains under investigation,” Africom said in a statement on Sunday. “Our focus is on the service members involved and their families.”
It Is African Lions
African Lion is the continent’s largest annual joint military exercise. It strengthens operations between US forces, Nato allies, and African nations. This year’s exercise is hosted across Morocco, Ghana, Senegal, and Tunisia. The drill focuses on crisis response and regional security.
