Sindh Vehicle Fitness Project to Launch Modern Inspection Centers
Sindh vehicle fitness reforms took a major step forward after the provincial government approved modern inspection centers for commercial vehicles. Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah chaired the 52nd PPP Policy Board meeting in Karachi on Friday. Officials said the project would improve road safety and reduce environmental pollution across the province. In addition, the government plans to introduce a digital inspection system with online appointments and mobile inspection services.
Modern Centres to Improve Road Safety
The government approved competitive bidding to attract private investors for the project. Officials explained that the current vehicle fitness system lacks proper monitoring and regular inspections. As a result, many unfit vehicles continue to operate on roads and increase accident risks.
The new inspection centres will use modern technology to check commercial vehicles. Drivers and transport companies will also benefit from faster and more transparent services. Furthermore, the project includes a public awareness campaign to educate people about vehicle inspections. The chief minister said the initiative would improve vehicle performance and help protect the environment.
Education and Infrastructure Projects Progress
The board also reviewed important education and infrastructure projects under the public-private partnership model. Members discussed the Sindh Institute of Teacher Education project, which aims to strengthen teacher training across the province. Officials said the institute would help address the shortage of qualified faculty for B.Ed programmes.
Meanwhile, the board reviewed progress on the NED Science and Technology Park project. Preparatory work and site clearance have already started. However, delays in Special Technology Zone approval still remain a challenge.
In addition, the board approved key decisions for an elevated corridor linking Karachi Port with Jam Sadiq Interchange near Qayumabad. The chief minister also highlighted international recognition for four Sindh PPP projects at the UNECE PPP Forum in Barcelona.
