Manama, Sep. 20 (BNA): On the occasion of the International Day of Peace, observed under the theme “Act Now for a Peaceful World” and coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the UN Peacebuilding Commission, Bahrain reaffirmed its commitment to peace, dialogue, and international cooperation. Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee, emphasized that under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Bahrain continues to promote policies grounded in peace, coexistence, and sustainable prosperity. He highlighted the vision of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in strengthening peace diplomacy, dialogue, and global partnerships for the benefit of all nations. Dr. Al Zayani stressed Bahrain’s dedication to enhancing regional and international cooperation in accordance with international law and the UN Charter. He noted Bahrain’s focus on Gulf Cooperation Council integration, particularly as it prepares to chair the upcoming GCC Summit, while supporting the Arab League and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in advancing peace and security. He also underscored the importance of the Comprehensive Security and Prosperity Agreement signed in Washington in 2023 with the United States and the United Kingdom, which strengthens maritime and air security while safeguarding global energy and trade flows.The Minister highlighted Bahrain’s strategic partnership with the UN through the 2025–2029 Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, signed with 21 UN agencies. He further noted Bahrain’s upcoming non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council for 2026–2027 as an opportunity to contribute to global peace, human rights, and sustainable development.
Dr. Al Zayani also praised the humanitarian vision of His Majesty the King, including the call for an international peace conference in the Middle East and support for a two-state solution to the Palestinian issue, reinforcing Bahrain’s long-standing policy of peaceful conflict resolution and respect for sovereignty.
