Maryam Nawaz Announces Free Land Scheme for Homeless Families in Punjab
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday announced a major free land scheme for citizens without property. She said the Punjab government would provide land and housing support to deserving families under its welfare agenda.
She made the announcement during a ceremony in Lahore. The event focused on distributing residential flats among labourers. Maryam Nawaz congratulated workers and said home ownership brings dignity and stability in life. In addition, she highlighted the government’s commitment to social welfare.
She said rising inflation and economic pressure have made home construction difficult for ordinary citizens. Therefore, the provincial government has decided to expand housing initiatives for low-income families. Furthermore, she assured continued efforts to improve living conditions across Punjab.
Housing Support and Development Plan
Maryam Nawaz stated that each residential flat costs around Rs3.5 million to construct. However, the government is providing these homes free of charge to eligible labourers. As a result, many families will receive long-term housing relief under the programme.
According to official figures, 720 residential flats are being distributed in the first phase. In addition, construction of 500 houses in Taxila is nearing completion. Authorities expect these homes to be handed over soon to deserving families.
She also shared progress under the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” Programme. So far, nearly 100,000 houses have been completed under this initiative. Therefore, the government says it is scaling up housing delivery across the province.
Focus on Welfare and Public Relief
The Punjab government continues to prioritize housing and welfare projects for low-income communities. Officials believe these schemes will reduce financial stress and improve quality of life for struggling families.
Meanwhile, citizens welcomed the announcement and expressed hope for fair distribution. The initiative has also sparked wider discussion about housing shortages and affordability issues in Punjab. As a result, public interest in government housing schemes continues to grow.
