UK Startup Unveils Nation’s First Industrial Humanoid Robot

A UK-based robotics startup, Humanoid, has introduced HMND 01 Alpha, the country’s first humanoid robot created specifically for industrial applications. The prototype, unveiled on September 18, represents a major step forward in the UK’s robotics sector, focusing on automating demanding and repetitive tasks.
Standing at 220 cm (87 inches) tall, the HMND 01 Alpha is built on a wheeled platform, enabling it to move efficiently at speeds of up to 7.2 km/h (4.4 mph). Despite its size, the robot is engineered for practicality, with the ability to carry payloads of 15 kg (33 lbs) — making it suitable for work in warehousing, logistics, and manufacturing.
The company highlights its design as a solution for jobs that are either monotonous or hazardous for human workers, such as heavy lifting, repetitive handling, and operations in unsafe environments. By targeting these tasks, Humanoid aims to improve both efficiency and workplace safety across industrial facilities.
Beyond the wheeled model, Humanoid has confirmed that development is underway for a bipedal version of the HMND 01. While the wheeled variant prioritizes speed and stability, the two-legged design would allow greater mobility and adaptability in environments designed for humans, potentially expanding its use cases into sectors like retail, construction, and public services.
The launch of HMND 01 Alpha positions the startup as a key player in the UK’s growing robotics industry, which is rapidly advancing in step with global developments. By addressing labor shortages, safety concerns, and efficiency goals, Humanoid’s creation signals the UK’s commitment to integrating advanced robotics into its industrial future.
