A Prisoner Exchange Amid Violence
The swap happened hours after rescue workers ended their search in Kyiv. A destroyed block of flats killed 24 people, including three girls.President Zelensky said most of the Ukrainian prisoners had been held since 2022. The swap was part of a short-lived ceasefire. That ceasefire ended this week with massive Russian strikes across Ukraine.
A Child Among the Victims
One missile attack reduced 18 flats to rubble. Among the victims was 12-year-old Lyubava Yakovleva. Her father was also killed during the war. The tragedy has shocked the nation.
Ukrainian Drones Hit Russian City
Russian officials reported their own casualties. Four people, including a child, were killed when Ukrainian drones hit Ryazan. The city is south-east of Moscow.Images on social media showed damage to two blocks of flats. Governor Pavel Malkov said debris had caused the damage. Twenty-eight people were hurt. Ukraine’s drone commander said his forces had hit Ryazan’s oil refinery. It is one of the biggest in Russia.
