Two US Tourists Arrested After Jumping into Monkey Enclosure in Japan
Two US nationals have been arrested in Japan. One man jumped into the enclosure of an internet-famous monkey.
A Bizarre Stunt
The other man filmed the stunt. Police confirmed the arrests. The first man claims to be a 24-year-old college student. He is accused of scaling a fence to access Punch’s enclosure on Sunday morning. The other man claims to be a 27-year-old singer. Both have denied the allegations. No monkeys were injured.
Famous Monkey
Punch is a nine-month-old macaque. He attracted millions of views online earlier this year. He was seen hugging a stuffed toy orangutan. Keepers gave him the toy after his mother rejected him.
Costume and Cryptocurrency
Footage from other zoogoers shows a person in a costume jumping over a fence. The person carried a stuffed toy. The costume was said to be promoting cryptocurrency. The person was then led out by a zookeeper.
The two men were arrested on suspicion of forcible obstruction of business. Ichikawa City Zoo said it had filed a damage report with the police. It is putting countermeasures in place to prevent future incidents.
