Government Orders FIA Crackdown on Fake CNICs and Corrupt NADRA Officials
The federal government has launched a fake CNIC crackdown to stop foreigners from obtaining illegal computerized national identity cards in Pakistan. Officials raised concerns about Afghan nationals receiving fake CNICs through alleged support from corrupt National Database and Registration Authority officials.
Therefore, the government directed the Federal Investigation Agency to take immediate action against those involved. Authorities also ordered close coordination between FIA officers and senior NADRA officials to strengthen investigations. In addition, the government decided to reopen old corruption inquiries that had remained inactive for years. Officials now aim to speed up investigations and hold all responsible individuals accountable under the law.
FIA Ordered to Reopen Corruption Cases
The FIA Director General instructed all zonal officers to contact NADRA authorities without delay. As a result, officials have started reviewing suspicious records and questionable CNIC applications across different offices.
Authorities also reopened several corruption cases that had shown little progress in the past. The government has given the FIA full authority to act against corrupt officials, facilitators, and agents without discrimination. Moreover, investigators will reexamine office records to identify illegal activities and fake registrations.
Officials plan to complete pending investigations quickly and bring responsible individuals to justice. The government also decided to take both departmental and criminal action against those found guilty.
Government Announces Zero Tolerance Policy
The government has adopted a zero tolerance policy against corruption linked to national identity documents. Officials believe fake CNICs can damage national security and harm Pakistan’s international reputation.
Therefore, authorities want strict accountability for anyone involved in illegal registrations. Investigators will continue monitoring NADRA offices and related agents to prevent future fraud cases.
The government also expects stronger coordination between FIA and NADRA to improve transparency and protect the national identification system from misuse.
