Square Enix Releases Free Demo For Zelda-Inspired RPG

Square Enix has released a free demo for its upcoming action RPG The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales. Players can download the demo right now on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC through Steam. The demo lets players experience the opening chapters before the full release launches on June 18, 2026.
The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales has quickly gained attention because of its strong Zelda-inspired gameplay. The new RPG combines HD-2D visuals, real-time combat, dungeon exploration, and puzzle-solving mechanics. Square Enix also confirmed that players can transfer their progress from the demo into the full game.

The Adventures Of Elliot Features Zelda-Style Gameplay

The Adventures of Elliot focuses heavily on exploration and dungeon-based progression. Players control Elliot as he explores dangerous ruins outside the world’s final surviving city. The game includes multiple weapons, environmental puzzles, hidden treasure, and magical upgrades that unlock new abilities.
Unlike many recent HD-2D games from Square Enix, The Adventures of Elliot uses real-time combat instead of turn-based mechanics. Players can switch between several weapon types while adapting to different enemies and puzzle layouts. The game also introduces different Ages that alter dungeon layouts and exploration paths.

Square Enix Expands Its RPG Lineup

Square Enix continues to experiment with new RPG ideas beyond established franchises like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. The Adventures of Elliot blends classic Zelda-inspired mechanics with modern HD-2D visuals and action-focused gameplay. Early reactions to the free demo have been positive across multiple platforms.
The game also features a companion fairy who assists Elliot during combat and exploration. Because each dungeon changes depending on the selected Age, players may discover new enemies, treasure, and puzzles during repeat visits. Thanks to its classic adventure design and polished presentation, The Adventures of Elliot could become one of Square Enix’s biggest new RPG releases of 2026.
