Pakistan Tightens Ebola Airport Screening After WHO Emergency Alert

Pakistan has increased Ebola airport screening after the World Health Organisation declared the outbreak a global emergency. Authorities started stricter checks at airports across the country. In addition, health officials placed hospitals and border services on alert to stop any possible spread.
Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal directed all airports to follow stronger safety measures. The Ministry of National Health Services confirmed that the outbreak remains limited to Congo and Uganda. However, officials still want to prevent any future risk inside Pakistan.
The ministry also said Pakistan has never reported an Ebola case. Moreover, neighbouring countries have not detected the virus either. Officials believe the overall threat remains low because travel connections with affected African countries remain limited.

Pakistan Increases Airport Monitoring

Health authorities have expanded surveillance at airports and border entry points. As a result, travellers arriving from affected regions now face careful screening procedures. Officials also advised citizens visiting African countries to review travel and health guidelines before departure.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health continues close coordination with the WHO. Authorities regularly monitor updates about the outbreak and review national preparedness plans. In addition, the National Institute of Health remains active in tracking the situation.
The government has not announced travel restrictions so far. Instead, officials prefer preventive action and public awareness measures. Experts believe early preparation can reduce future health risks.

Authorities Remain on High Alert

Provincial health departments and border health teams have received emergency instructions. Therefore, medical staff must stay alert for any suspected Ebola case. The ministry also confirmed that Pakistan has the ability to diagnose the virus if necessary.
Mustafa Kamal said the government wants to protect the public through timely preventive measures. Furthermore, hospitals and health institutions continue improving emergency response systems nationwide. Authorities will keep monitoring the Ebola outbreak closely in the coming weeks.
