FromSoftware is preparing to roll out a new update for Elden Ring: Nightreign, aimed at adjusting the brutal challenge of the recently introduced Deep of Night mode. While many hardcore fans welcomed the punishing difficulty as a true test of endurance, others have been struggling to progress through the lower Depth levels. The upcoming patch seeks to strike a balance, offering relief for struggling players without diminishing the thrill for seasoned veterans.
One of the major changes coming with this patch is the ability for players to increase their Depth level by one, providing a smoother progression curve. This adjustment means those stuck in the earlier Depths will have an easier path forward, reducing frustration and encouraging more experimentation.
In addition, the patch introduces rank demotion protection for Depths 3, 4, and 5. Under the new system, players won’t immediately drop to a lower Depth after losing a match. Specifically, Depth 3 offers protection for a single defeat, while Depths 4 and 5 allow up to two losses before a demotion. These protections are not one-time perks—once players regain their Depth level, the safeguard will activate again, offering sustained progression support
Another important improvement is aimed at Depth 1 players. When matched against opponents at Depth 2 or higher, Depth 1 players will no longer suffer point loss, reducing the discouragement of fighting stronger opponents. FromSoftware has also confirmed that the patch addresses a lingering bug where player rankings remained static even after victories, ensuring smoother progression for everyone.
While the exact release date for the patch hasn’t been revealed yet, FromSoftware has promised more details in the coming days. With Elden Ring: Nightreign currently available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, fans can look forward to this balance update, along with additional DLC content set to arrive later this year.
