God of War Laufey Combat Revives Classic Series Action

God of War Laufey Combat Revives Classic Series Action

Sony Santa Monica has officially revealed new gameplay details for God of War Laufey, offering fans a closer look at the combat mechanics that set Faye’s adventure apart from previous entries. Set alongside the events of God of War and God of War Ragnarök, the upcoming title follows Laufey through the mysterious Everywhen, a realm where gods from different mythologies can cross paths.

God of War Laufey Combat Brings Back Air Combos

One of the most notable features shown during the latest gameplay presentation is the return of air-based combat. Unlike Kratos, whose recent adventures focused heavily on grounded combat and defensive play, Faye can double-jump, launch enemies into the air, and perform extended aerial combos.
These mechanics closely resemble the action-heavy combat style of the original God of War trilogy. Longtime fans have praised the return of enemy juggling and aerial attacks, which were central to the franchise’s Greek mythology era before being removed from the Norse saga.

New Weapons and Mythological Encounters

Faye’s journey also introduces a mysterious sword accompanied by a talking ribbon named Rue and a companion cube known as Phranque. Together, they appear to play an important role throughout the adventure while expanding the game’s combat options and narrative.
The Everywhen setting allows characters from multiple mythologies to appear throughout the story. Early gameplay already confirms encounters with Egyptian goddess Sekhmet and the Mongolian-Tibetan deity Begtse, suggesting that God of War Laufey could explore a wide range of mythological worlds beyond Norse legends.
Many fans also believe the newly revealed combat system may hint at future gameplay ideas for the rumored God of War Greek trilogy remake. God of War Laufey is currently shaping up to be one of the franchise’s most ambitious spin-offs.
