Bangladesh ODI Upset: Tigers Crush Australia in Rain-Hit Series Opener

The Bangladesh ODI upset grabbed headlines as the Tigers defeated Australia by 86 runs in the opening match of the three-match series in Dhaka. Rain ended play early, and Bangladesh secured victory through the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method. Mosaddek Hossain starred with an unbeaten 86 from 70 balls on his return to international cricket. In addition, he claimed two wickets and earned the Player of the Match award. Nahid Rana also impressed, taking four crucial wickets. Australia faced trouble from the start. Taskin Ahmed dismissed Matt Short with the first ball of the innings. Shortly after, Mustafizur Rahman removed Marnus Labuschagne, leaving the visitors at 2-2. Cameron Green fought back with an unbeaten 52. However, Bangladesh’s pace attack continued to apply pressure. Rana dismissed Josh Inglis and Alex Carey, while the lower order struggled to build partnerships. When a thunderstorm stopped play, Australia were 191-9 after 42.2 overs. As a result, Bangladesh claimed only their second-ever ODI victory over Australia.

Mosaddek and Top Order Build Winning Total

Earlier, Bangladesh posted a competitive 284 thanks to several key contributions. Tanzid Hasan scored a quick 54, while Najmul Hossain Shanto added 67. The pair shared a valuable 96-run partnership after an early setback. Meanwhile, Australia missed several chances in the field and dropped six catches. Four of those opportunities came off Mosaddek. After Shanto departed, Mosaddek guided the innings with confidence. He built useful partnerships with Towhid Hridoy, Tanvir Islam, and Taskin Ahmed. Therefore, Bangladesh finished with a strong total. Nathan Ellis led Australia’s bowling attack with three wickets. Nevertheless, Bangladesh’s batters and bowlers combined effectively to secure a memorable win and a 1-0 series lead.
