Karachi Drone Network Arrest Exposes Alleged TTP Supply Operation
A joint operation by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and a federal civilian intelligence agency led to the arrest of a suspect in Karachi. Officials alleged that the man supplied drone technology and electronic equipment to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Authorities described the arrest as a major breakthrough in efforts to disrupt militant networks and prevent future attacks.
CTD Uncovers Alleged Drone Supply Chain
According to the CTD, the suspect is the brother of Talal alias Zaid Baloch, an alleged TTP member currently based in Afghanistan. Authorities also listed Talal among the department’s most-wanted terrorists. Investigators believe the suspect played an important role in securing equipment for the banned outfit.
Officials said the suspect allegedly purchased drone motors, propellers, batteries, controller boards, and other electronic components. Investigators claimed he acted on instructions from his brother and helped arrange the delivery of the equipment. Authorities believe these items could support the development of drones and explosive devices.
The CTD also alleged that the suspect acquired Google Pixel 3 and OnePlus mobile phones. In addition, he reportedly purchased Mini DJI and Air 2 drones. Investigators are examining how the equipment was transported and used.
Equipment Purchased Across Karachi
Officials said the suspect obtained the equipment from several locations across Karachi. These locations included Saddar, Bolton Market, and Ranchore Line. Furthermore, investigators found that some purchases were made through online platforms.
During initial interrogation, the suspect allegedly admitted that the equipment was intended for use in terrorist activities. According to the CTD, the items could help prepare improvised explosive devices, suicide jackets, and drone-based attacks.
Authorities have expanded the investigation to identify other possible facilitators and network members. Meanwhile, security agencies continue monitoring attempts to use modern technology for militant purposes.
Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar praised the CTD and the intelligence agency for the successful operation. He said the arrest reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen security and combat terrorism across the province.
