Online harassment crackdown: NCCIA arrests 10 suspects across Punjab
The online harassment crackdown intensified in Punjab as the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) arrested 10 suspects in separate operations. Authorities carried out raids in Lahore, Multan, and Faisalabad. The suspects allegedly harassed women online, blackmailed victims, and used objectionable content to exert pressure.
The operations took place on the directions of NCCIA Punjab Director Muhammad Ali Waseem. Investigators seized mobile phones, digital devices, and other evidence during the raids. Authorities have sent the recovered material for forensic examination. As a result, investigators expect the evidence to strengthen ongoing cases.
Arrests in Lahore, Multan and Faisalabad
According to officials, Mustafa and Arif were arrested in separate cases in Lahore. Both suspects allegedly harassed women through online platforms. Meanwhile, authorities arrested Aziz, Tanveer, and Asad in Multan in connection with another case. In addition, Ashfaq and Tahir were taken into custody in separate incidents involving similar allegations.
In Faisalabad, authorities arrested Fakhar for allegedly blackmailing his former wife. Investigators said he shared videos and photographs with relatives to pressure the victim. In another case, officials arrested Farooq for allegedly harassing a woman through digital platforms.
AI Misuse Raises New Concerns
Authorities also arrested Haseeb in Faisalabad on serious charges involving artificial intelligence. Investigators alleged that he used AI technology to create fake and objectionable images of a former friend. They said he threatened to circulate the material on social media and demanded Rs2 million from the victim.
Officials stated that preliminary investigations and digital evidence linked the suspects to cyber harassment and blackmail activities. Therefore, authorities have expanded inquiries into related offences.
Director Muhammad Ali Waseem said NCCIA would continue action against individuals involved in online abuse and exploitation. He stressed that the agency would use all available resources to protect victims and ensure legal action against offenders. Further investigations are underway, and authorities will take additional steps after receiving forensic reports.
