Algeria Comeback Victory Ends Jordan Dream at World Cup 2026

The Algeria Comeback Victory kept their World Cup hopes alive on Monday. Algeria defeated Jordan 2-1 and eliminated the tournament debutants with one match remaining. Jordan started confidently and looked organized throughout the first half. They created chances and tested Algeria with quick attacking moves. Nizar Al-Rashdan rewarded that strong start with the opening goal. His strike gave Jordan a deserved lead and boosted their confidence. However, Algeria responded with greater urgency after the break. They pushed forward and controlled more possession in dangerous areas.

Second-Half Turnaround Seals Crucial Win

Substitute Nadhir Benbouali changed the match soon after entering. He rose highest in the box and powered a header into the net. The equalizer lifted Algeria and increased pressure on Jordan. As a result, the North African side continued to attack with determination. Jordan still threatened on the counterattack and searched for another breakthrough. Yet Algeria defended better and limited clear opportunities. With eight minutes remaining, Algeria found the winning goal. A crowded goalmouth scramble created confusion inside the penalty area. Amine Gouiri reacted fastest and poked the ball home. Therefore, Algeria completed a dramatic comeback and secured three valuable points. Gouiri praised his team’s response after the final whistle. He highlighted their improved performance and strong mentality after the heavy defeat against Argentina. The victory moved Algeria level with Austria on three points in Group J. Meanwhile, defending champions Argentina secured first place after beating Austria 2-0 earlier in the day. Jordan’s players left the field disappointed after the result. Goalkeeper Yazeed Abu Laila admitted the team failed to capitalize on key moments. He also accepted responsibility and apologized to supporters. Nevertheless, Jordan earned respect during their first World Cup appearance and showed plenty of promise for the future.
