Margalla Enclave Underpass to Open by July 30
The Margalla Enclave Underpass will open to traffic by July 30, 2026, bringing relief to thousands of commuters in Islamabad. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is building the project on Park Road to reduce congestion in Zone-IV. It will also improve access to DHA Margalla Enclave, Park View City, Bahria Enclave, and nearby areas. However, drivers still face long delays until construction ends later this month.
Project Nears Completion
The CDA began site preparation and traffic diversions in late January 2026. It started regular construction work in March. According to updates shared with the Senate, the underpass remains on schedule. Officials expect to complete the surrounding infrastructure by August.
The underpass forms part of the Rs10 billion Park Road development project. The scheme also includes service roads, overhead infrastructure, and road improvements. Therefore, commuters can expect smoother traffic flow after the project finishes. The CDA believes the upgrades will improve connectivity across Islamabad’s expanding residential areas.
Commuters Continue to Face Delays
Construction has caused serious traffic problems on Park Road. Drivers now spend an extra 20 to 30 minutes on the route every day. The road serves residents of Chak Shahzad, Shahzad Town, Park Enclave, Park View City, and nearby neighborhoods. In addition, students, office workers, and shoppers use this route daily.
Many residents have criticized the temporary traffic arrangements. They say the diversion routes remain narrow, dusty, uneven, and poorly maintained. Moreover, drivers have reported weak lane markings, limited traffic control, and poor warning signs. Rain makes conditions even worse by leaving mud and standing water on the temporary roads. Rough surfaces have also damaged vehicles, while motorcyclists continue to face safety risks.
Once the Margalla Enclave Underpass opens, it will reduce congestion, improve travel times, and provide a safer journey for thousands of daily commuters across Islamabad.
