Beijing Skyscraper Plane Crash: Pilot’s Suicide

Beijing Skyscraper Plane Crash: A Deliberate Act

A Beijing skyscraper plane crash has shocked the Chinese capital. Pilot Liu deliberately flew his small aircraft into the CITIC Tower. The 66-year-old died instantly upon impact. Thirteen others sustained injuries during the incident.
Authorities concluded the act was motivated by personal reasons. Liu suffered from chronic insomnia and anxiety. His diary contained “multiple expressions of ending his life.” Therefore, officials classified this as endangering public safety.

The Pilot’s Story

Liu was a divorced freelancer who lived alone. The Chaoyang district government released a detailed statement about him. His mental health struggles apparently drove his actions. The investigation found no political or terrorist motives.
One injured person has already been discharged from hospital. Officials confirmed that the other victims continue receiving treatment. Their conditions are reportedly stable. Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene.

The Crash and Aftermath

Videos of the crash circulated widely online initially. However, authorities quickly removed them from Chinese platforms. Observers viewed this as a huge security breach. The 109-storey CITIC Tower stands near Zhongnanhai.
Locals long considered the building a lucky charm. Many residents expressed shock at the tragedy. Even unrelated photos of the skyscraper were taken down. This reflected the sensitivity surrounding the incident.
The government emphasised that no wider threat exists. They assured the public that security measures will be reviewed. The investigation remains officially closed. This tragic event raises questions about mental health support.
