Babar Azam Prioritizes Discipline, Fitness and Performance as Test Captain

Pakistan Test captain Babar Azam has vowed not to compromise on discipline, fitness and performance as Babar Test captain. Speaking during an interview on Straight Drive with Salman Butt, he said these three values would remain his top priorities. He added that leading Pakistan is always an honour. Babar also expressed confidence in guiding the team with a fresh mindset and better planning.

Babar stresses discipline and team development

Babar said he learned valuable lessons from his previous spell as captain. He reviewed his decisions and used that experience to improve his leadership skills. Therefore, he now feels more mature and prepared for the role.
The skipper said he would continue supporting every player. However, he expects everyone to meet high standards of discipline, fitness and performance. According to Babar, these qualities will help Pakistan compete consistently in Test cricket.
He also praised the young players in the squad. Many earned selection through outstanding domestic performances. As a result, he wants to create a relaxed environment where they can perform with confidence. Babar said he regularly speaks with younger teammates to reduce pressure and help them adjust to international cricket.
The Pakistan captain described the National Cricket Academy’s red-ball camp as an important part of the team’s preparations. The camp focused on fitness, fielding and patience. In addition, coaches discussed pressure management and different match situations with the players.

Pakistan target success on overseas tours

Looking ahead, Babar said Pakistan prepared according to the expected conditions in the West Indies and England. He admitted the West Indies tour would be challenging. However, he believes several players will benefit from their county cricket experience in England.
Babar also explained his batting philosophy. He said he always plays according to the team’s needs instead of chasing personal records. Sometimes the team requires quick runs, while other situations demand patience.
Finally, Babar urged young cricketers to believe in themselves and trust their routines. He also thanked Pakistan’s fans for their continued support. He promised that the team would work hard, learn from every match and give its best in the upcoming Test assignments.
