Edhi Death Anniversary: Pakistan Pays Tribute to Abdul Sattar Edhi’s Lasting Legacy

Pakistan observed the Edhi death anniversary on Wednesday by honoring the life and humanitarian work of Abdul Sattar Edhi. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to his selfless service and lasting contributions. They said his dedication to helping people continues to inspire millions across Pakistan. His remarkable journey remains a powerful example of compassion, generosity, and public service for future generations.

Leaders Remember Edhi’s Humanitarian Legacy

Abdul Sattar Edhi was born on February 28, 1928, in Gujarat, British India. He started his welfare mission in 1951 with limited resources but unlimited determination. Over the years, he built one of Pakistan’s largest charitable organizations. In addition, he established the world’s largest volunteer ambulance network. His foundation also operates orphanages, shelters, welfare centers, and homes for abandoned children. It provides support to women, low-income families, older people, and people with disabilities across the country. As a result, millions of people have benefited from his humanitarian services.
President Asif Ali Zardari described Edhi as a symbol of national pride and humanity. He said Edhi’s institutions continue to serve millions every day. Furthermore, the president said his legacy reflects the values of empathy, charity, and dignity. He urged citizens to carry forward the same spirit of selfless service.

Edhi’s Mission Continues to Inspire Pakistan

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also praised Abdul Sattar Edhi’s extraordinary contributions to society. He said Edhi devoted his entire life to serving humanity with honesty and compassion. According to the prime minister, his welfare work created a remarkable chapter in Pakistan’s social history. Therefore, he encouraged young people to follow Edhi’s example and contribute to positive social change.
Edhi received many national and international honors, including the Asian Nobel Award, the Lenin Peace Prize, and the Nishan-e-Imtiaz. He passed away in Karachi on July 8, 2016, at the age of 88. However, his mission continues through the Edhi Foundation. His legacy reminds everyone that kindness, generosity, and compassion can transform lives and strengthen society.
