NICH Doctors Continue Indefinite Protest Over Security Concerns in Karachi
Doctors at Karachi’s National Institute of Child Health (NICH) have continued the NICH doctors protest for the fourth consecutive day. The Young Doctors Association (YDA) says staff still face serious security concerns inside the hospital. As a result, doctors have suspended outpatient departments and new ward admissions. However, emergency care, intensive care units and operation theatres continue working to treat critically ill children without interruption.
Security concerns remain unresolved
The YDA says hospital management has repeatedly promised to improve security. However, dص ب. ب. قoctors claim those assurances have not resulted in practical action. According to the association, healthcare workers, patients and attendants still face safety risks within the hospital premises.
Doctors say they have held several meetings with hospital officials during the protest. Nevertheless, they believe no urgent measures have been introduced. Therefore, the association has decided to continue the protest until authorities address its concerns. The doctors also warned that any future security incident could put staff and patients at greater risk.
Earlier talks failed to end dispute
The current situation follows discussions between YDA representatives and senior hospital officials. During those meetings, doctors highlighted incidents involving threats, harassment, violence and interference while performing medical duties. Although hospital officials offered assurances, the association says immediate action did not follow.
As a result, the protest continued and later became indefinite. Even so, doctors have maintained emergency, PICU, NICU and surgical services. This decision aims to protect children who require urgent treatment while the dispute continues.
Doctors seek stronger security measures
The YDA has urged the Sindh government and hospital administration to introduce a comprehensive hospital security system without delay. In addition, it has called for legal action against individuals involved in attacks or harassment of doctors. The association also wants a safer workplace for healthcare professionals and better protection for patients and their families.
Meanwhile, hospital management has not issued a fresh statement on the latest developments. The protest will continue until doctors see meaningful progress on their security demands.
