Defined Contribution Pension Scheme 2024 Enters Federal Phase

Defined Contribution Pension Scheme 2024 Enters Federal Phase

The federal government has started implementing the Pension Fund Scheme for public sector employees. The move aims to reduce the rising pension burden on the national budget. Officials have now issued rules for the Defined Contribution Pension Fund Scheme 2024.

Ministries Receive New Pension Directives

The government has directed all federal ministries, divisions, and departments to begin implementation. Each organisation must identify employees covered by the new system.

Ministries and divisions must also update employee records with the Accountant General Pakistan Revenues. They must complete this task within 15 days.

In addition, every ministry and division must appoint a Grade 17 or above officer. This officer will serve as the focal person for the scheme.

The focal person will monitor progress and coordinate pension-related matters. Therefore, ministries can address implementation issues more quickly.

The government wants accurate employee records for the new system. Officials will organise the data by ministry, division, department, and grade.

Finance Ministry to Monitor Implementation

The Human Resources Wing of the Ministry of Finance will supervise the implementation process. Meanwhile, the Controller General of Accounts will support data collection.

The Controller General will work with the Accountant General Pakistan Revenues. Together, they will prepare comprehensive employee records for the pension scheme.

The government has set a clear deadline for the required measures. It has also asked relevant organisations to complete their tasks within the specified timeframe.

The new system forms part of wider pension reforms. Officials want to control the growing cost of pensions over the long term.

The Defined Contribution model will change how the government manages pension obligations. It also aims to create a more structured approach to retirement benefits.

However, successful implementation will depend on accurate records and effective coordination. Ministries must therefore follow the new instructions carefully.

The federal government has made the scheme a priority across ministries and divisions. As a result, public sector employees covered by the rules will enter a new pension framework.
