Goods Transporters Strike Enters Sixth Day as Talks Begin
The government and goods transporters will hold talks in Karachi on Thursday. The nationwide strike has now entered its sixth day.
Transporters say they will continue the stoppage until officials accept their demands. They also want practical steps to resolve the ongoing dispute.
Government Delegation to Meet Transporters
Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping Muhammad Junaid Anwar will lead the government side. Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon will also join the talks.The delegation will include several senior officials. They include the Sindh chief secretary, Karachi commissioner, and Karachi Port Trust chairman.
The Port Qasim Authority chairman will also attend the meeting. Other relevant government officials are expected to participate.Meanwhile,All Pakistan Goods Transport Owners Association President Muhammad Owais Chaudhry Advocate said transporters remain united.
He said goods transporters across Pakistan continue their peaceful protest. According to him, the association wants serious and result-oriented talks with the government.
Transporters Seek Practical Action
Chaudhry said transporters want to resolve the dispute through negotiations. However, he stressed that government assurances alone would not end the strike.The association says its demands remain lawful and support the national economy. Therefore, transporters want practical measures before ending the wheel-jam strike.
He expressed hope that Thursday’s meeting would produce positive results. However, he confirmed that transporters would remain firm on their demands.The nationwide strike has disrupted goods movement across Pakistan. The upcoming talks could therefore prove important for both transporters and the wider economy.
