PPL Gas Discovery Sujawal Boosts Sindh Energy Potential
Pakistan Petroleum Limited has announced a major update. The PPL gas discovery Sujawal marks a fresh energy find in Sindh. The company shared this news with the Pakistan Stock Exchange on August 17, 2026.
This discovery comes from the Dolphin X-1 well. It sits in the Sujawal district, an area with growing exploration interest. As a result, experts now expect more activity in the region.
Drilling Details and Results
PPL started drilling on April 17, 2026. The team reached a depth of 3,850 meters to study hydrocarbon potential. They focused on the Chiltan Formation, which showed promising signs. Tests confirmed gas presence in several layers. Moreover, open hole logging highlighted hydrocarbon intervals. During testing, the well produced gas at a steady rate.
The gas had a heating value near 1,000 Btu per cubic foot. In addition, the flow rate reached 0.942 million cubic feet daily. Engineers recorded pressure at 211 psi using a controlled choke.
Condensate Findings and Impact
The well also produced condensate during early tests. Initially, it flowed at 94 barrels per day. However, the rate dropped to 46 barrels within 24 hours. Later tests showed no condensate output. Even so, experts see the initial presence as encouraging. It suggests strong hydrocarbon potential in the formation.
Therefore, the discovery supports further exploration plans. It also confirms an active petroleum system in the region.
Future Exploration Outlook
PPL believes this find opens new doors. The Sujawal area may become a key exploration hub. In addition, nearby marshy zones and shallow offshore areas could hold more reserves. The company operates the Sirani Exploration License with a 75 percent share. Meanwhile, Government Holdings Private Limited owns the remaining 25 percent. This partnership strengthens future exploration efforts. As a result, Pakistan may reduce energy gaps and boost local production.
