SC Orders Imran Khan Hospital Transfer Within 48 Hours
The Supreme Court ordered authorities to move jailed PTI founder Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital within 48 hours. The three-member bench issued the order on Tuesday after hearing concerns about his health. Doctors will examine him at the Islamabad hospital. The court also allowed weekly family meetings and telephone calls with his sons.
Government to Challenge Court Decision
Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said the federal government will challenge the decision. He said convicted prisoners receive medical treatment at government hospitals. Tarar also questioned whether the ruling should apply to other prisoners with health concerns.
However, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhary said the government would implement the court order. He told the Senate that the prime minister cannot ignore judicial decisions. He also said the ruling showed the independence of Pakistan’s courts.Meanwhile, PTI lawmakers welcomed the Supreme Court decision. Senator Azam Swati called the ruling a positive step. He also urged political leaders to resolve their differences through dialogue.
Senator Faisal Javed thanked the Supreme Court for its decision. He said the administration now must ensure proper implementation. PTI lawmakers also sought similar relief for other imprisoned party leaders.
Court Warns Supporters Against Gathering
The judges warned Imran Khan’s supporters against gathering outside the hospital. They urged everyone to respect the court’s directions after his transfer.PTI said it would follow the court order and avoid any violation. Meanwhile, Noreen Niazi met her brother at Adiala Jail after the Supreme Court decision.
The government now faces a legal challenge over the treatment arrangement. Officials must also complete the transfer within the 48-hour deadline.Separately, the Senate session ended without completing its agenda. The House lacked the required quorum for the second consecutive day. As a result, lawmakers adjourned the session.The ruling could deepen political tensions between the government and PTI. However, its immediate focus remains Imran Khan’s medical examination and treatment.
