Defence Forces Act 2026 Approved by Federal Cabinet
The federal cabinet approved the draft Defence Forces Act 2026 on Thursday. It also approved amendments to the National Command Authority Act 2010.Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired the cabinet meeting in Islamabad. The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed the decisions following the 27th Constitutional Amendment.
The new legislation will establish an administrative framework for the Chief of Defence Forces. It will also cover the newly created Chief of Defence Forces Headquarters.
New Defence Framework Moves Forward
The government drafted the Defence Forces Act 2026 after constitutional changes. The bill aims to provide the legal structure for the new defence leadership position.According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the legislation continues reforms introduced through the 27th Constitutional Amendment. Therefore, the proposed law will help define the administrative setup linked to the new position.
The cabinet has now cleared the draft for parliamentary consideration. National Command Authority Act Also Amended
The cabinet also approved changes to the National Command Authority Act 2010. Officials described these amendments as necessary after the 27th Constitutional Amendment.The amended law will also go before Parliament for approval. Both measures will now enter the next stage of the legislative process.
