Pakistan’s Maritime Future Bright, Says President Zardari Ports to Become Regional Trade Hubs Through Modernization

President Asif Ali Zardari has said that Pakistan is steadily emerging as a responsible member of the global maritime community, with the sector playing a pivotal role in ensuring the country’s trade connectivity and economic stability.
In his message on the occasion of World Maritime Day 2025, the President emphasized that Pakistan’s maritime future is both “bright and sustainable.” He said this progress is anchored in ongoing initiatives for port development, digitization, and modernization. He noted that upgradation work at Karachi Port and Port Qasim is in full swing, and the government is determined to transform these facilities into regional trade hubs capable of handling rising cargo volumes.
Zardari underlined that reforms in maritime policies are being advanced with the goal of making Pakistan’s shipping industry globally competitive. He stressed that extending incentives to Pakistani shipping companies would not only reduce reliance on foreign carriers but also strengthen freight security and help conserve valuable foreign exchange.
The President further stated that the phased implementation of the Port Community System under the Pakistan Single Window project is a crucial step toward digital transformation. This system, he explained, will integrate the entire supply chain, ensure transparency, and bring port operations in line with international standards. According to him, such reforms are essential for promoting national interest, regional integration, and sustainable economic development.
Underscoring the importance of investment, Zardari said that modernization of ports will expand trade volumes while creating new employment opportunities across the sector. He pledged to engage all stakeholders in the maritime industry, reaffirming that maritime development is central to Pakistan’s overall progress.
“With better policies and dedicated efforts, Pakistan can build a strong and sustainable maritime future,” the President concluded, adding that the country is ready to serve as a key gateway in the global trade supply chain.
