Israeli Forces Seize Gaza-Bound Flotilla, Arresting Hundreds

A00116

The Israeli military has seized the entire Global Sumud Flotilla. The fleet carried activists and aid supplies for Gaza.
Livestreams showed Israeli soldiers boarding the final ship, the Marinette. This Polish-flagged vessel had six crew members. It was the last of 44 boats once sailing together.

Mission and Arrests

The flotilla aimed to deliver humanitarian aid and challenge Israel’s blockade on Gaza. Hundreds of activists from dozens of boats faced arrest.
Organizers stressed that their mission was peaceful. They wanted to highlight Gaza’s worsening humanitarian crisis. Israel, however, claimed the flotilla threatened its security.

Rising Global Tension

Governments and human rights groups quickly condemned the seizures. They argued Israel used unnecessary force against a civilian-led mission.
As a result, diplomatic pressure on Israel may grow. Many expect calls for stronger global action to end Gaza’s siege.
Protests have already erupted in several countries. Activists say the crackdown only highlights the urgent need for humanitarian access.
The seizure marks another flashpoint in Israel’s tense relations with the international community. Whether these arrests lead to wider disputes remains uncertain.
