Peshawar Blast: Constable Martyred, Seven Injured in IED Attack

B00118

A police constable lost his life and seven others sustained injuries when a remote-controlled bomb struck a patrol van in Peshawar’s Garhi Qamardin area on Friday. The explosion ripped through the vehicle during routine duty. Constable Muhammad Sajjad was killed instantly, while three fellow officers and four civilians were wounded.
Investigators later confirmed that the attackers had used a remote-detonated improvised explosive device (IED). Ball bearings recovered from the site proved the bomb’s deadly nature. Security forces immediately sealed the area, while rescue teams quickly shifted the injured to nearby hospitals. Meanwhile, eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as residents rushed forward to help before ambulances arrived.

Funeral and Tributes

Constable Muhammad Sajjad received full official honors when he was laid to rest at Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines. Senior civil and military officials attended the funeral prayers. Among them were KP’s Acting IGP Muhammad Ali Babakhel, CCPO Dr. Mian Saeed, and officers from the Pakistan Army. They expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and praised the slain officer’s courage and commitment.
Moreover, police officials highlighted Sajjad’s sacrifice in the line of duty. A senior officer addressing the gathering vowed that the martyr’s blood would not go in vain. He reaffirmed the government’s determination to continue the fight against terrorism. In addition, he stressed that security forces would pursue those behind the attack until they face justice.
The incident once again highlights the persistent security challenges in Peshawar. At the same time, it demonstrates the sacrifices made by law enforcement in protecting civilians. Officials emphasized that such attacks only strengthen the resolve of the state and its institutions. Therefore, they pledged to continue their mission against extremist violence with even greater determination.
