KP Waives Fees for Telecom Companies to Boost Internet Access
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced a major digital reform to boost internet access across the province. It has waived all charges for telecom companies laying underground cable networks for the next three years.
Move to Expand Internet and Digital Access
The decision aims to make internet services faster, cheaper, and more accessible. By removing these charges, the government hopes to attract more telecom investment and expand broadband infrastructure in remote areas.
Previously, telecom companies were required to pay Rs5 per meter to the National Highway Authority (NHA) for laying cables. Removing this cost will help reduce operational expenses and speed up network expansion.
Support for Digital Transformation and Growth
Dr. Shafqat Ayaz, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Science and Technology, said the initiative will help bridge the digital divide. He explained that better connectivity will benefit students, freelancers, businesses, and essential services across KP.
He added that improved digital infrastructure will accelerate economic growth and drive the province toward digital transformation. This initiative also aligns with the government’s goal of promoting a knowledge-based economy through technology access and innovation.
The three-year waiver will encourage telecom companies to invest in fiber networks and bring affordable high-speed internet to underserved regions. KP’s leadership believes that a stronger digital foundation will create jobs, boost e-learning, and enhance service delivery for citizens.
