Extortion has once again troubled Karachi, the country’s main business hub. Police received 118 complaints this year, said a recent report to the Sindh police chief. However, investigators found only 44 genuine complaints. The rest involved personal or business disputes.
Police Crack Down on Extortion Gangs
Police solved 39 out of 44 confirmed cases, showing an 87% success rate. Investigators identified 78 suspects. Officers arrested 43 and killed five during encounters.
The report also compared last year’s crime data with this year’s numbers. The findings showed steady progress in keeping Karachi’s business community safe. Police continue to focus on securing trade zones and major markets.
IG Commends Traders’ Cooperation
IG Sindh Police Ghulam Nabi Memon vowed firm action against every criminal network. He said extortion harms the city’s economy and public safety. Therefore, police will continue their crackdown without discrimination.
Traders supported the campaign by installing CCTV cameras at commercial areas. Their cooperation helped officers track suspects faster. The police plan to expand surveillance in busy districts to stop future crimes.
Karachi’s law enforcement teams aim to protect citizens and strengthen business confidence. They want to make the city safer for everyone.
