Afghanistan Accuses Pakistan of Airstrike Violation on Border Province
Afghanistan’s Taliban government has accused Pakistan of violating its sovereign territory. Officials called it an “unprecedented, violent, and provocative act.”
Two loud explosions were heard late Thursday in eastern Afghanistan. According to the Taliban Defence Ministry, Pakistan carried out airstrikes in Patika province, located near the border.
Blasts Destroy Shops and Markets
The ministry said that the strikes hit a civilian market. Several shops were destroyed in the attack, and local residents reported heavy damage. However, the exact number of casualties remains unclear.
Locals speaking to BBC’s Afghan Service confirmed the explosions and described panic spreading through the area. Many families fled their homes, fearing more strikes.
Pakistan Silent on the Allegations
Pakistan has neither confirmed nor denied launching an attack inside Afghanistan. The silence has sparked tension between the two neighbours, already struggling with border security issues.
Relations between Islamabad and Kabul have been uneasy for months. Both sides accuse each other of harbouring militant groups. This latest incident may further damage diplomatic efforts to improve cooperation.
Analysts believe the situation could escalate if both governments fail to open dialogue soon. In addition, humanitarian agencies warn that any cross-border violence could worsen living conditions for civilians in the region.
As a result, many international observers are urging restraint and calling for a transparent investigation into the reported airstrikes.
