KP Confirms First Dengue Death of 2025 in Mardan
A 30-year-old man from Mardan has died of Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever, marking the first dengue-related death of the year in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to an official report, Mardan is among the province’s high-risk districts for this mosquito-borne disease.
Health officials said the patient was admitted to Mardan Medical Complex on September 30. However, he left the hospital against medical advice two days later. He continued home treatment and reportedly received several dextrose water drips, which worsened his condition.
Health Officials Urge Precaution and Awareness
Health teams have begun inspecting homes in affected areas. They identified mosquito larvae and advised residents to improve water storage and destroy breeding sites. People were urged to keep water containers tightly covered to prevent mosquitoes from multiplying.
Officials added that frequent power outages have forced many households to store water. However, they stressed the importance of covering utensils to reduce mosquito breeding.
Health experts explained that dengue and Chikungunya share the same mode of transmission—mosquito bites. Therefore, proper water management remains the only effective protection.
Last year, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded three dengue deaths and over 4,200 infections. This year, the provincial health department implemented new preventive measures, which have helped reduce fatalities so far.
Experts warned that the current temperatures remain ideal for mosquito breeding. Therefore, they expect a rise in dengue cases this month. However, they believe community awareness can significantly limit the spread of the disease.
