Karachi Slow Internet Issue Continues After PTCL Cable Repair

Karachi Slow Internet Issue Continues After PTCL Cable Repair

PTCL has finished repairing the damaged submarine cable. The company restored full operations on the affected segment. Internet speed across Pakistan has improved after the repair.
However, users in Karachi still experience poor performance. Uploads and downloads on social media remain slow. Many people continue to report lag during peak hours.
PTCL confirmed that maintenance work on the undersea communication network is complete. The company said the repeater in the cable now functions properly. Internet traffic has shifted back to normal routes.
Still, some neighborhoods in Karachi face unstable connectivity. PTCL teams are monitoring the situation closely. They aim to resolve these lingering issues soon.

Reasons and Future Plans

The disruption started after a repeater fault in the submarine system. PTCL had warned users about possible slowdowns for up to 18 hours. Most areas recovered quickly, but Karachi remains affected.
To strengthen connectivity, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) plans to issue Fixed Satellite Services (FSS) licenses. The move will attract companies such as Starlink and Shanghai SpaceCom. These firms can help expand internet access nationwide.
Each FSS license will last 15 years. License holders must launch their services within 18 months. The plan focuses on remote and underserved areas.
Improved satellite links will reduce dependence on submarine cables. As a result, Pakistan will face fewer outages in the future.
Karachi users can expect faster recovery soon. With stronger systems and new technology, the Karachi

slow internet issue may finally end
