Pakistan Warns Afghanistan Over Ceasefire Violation Amid Rising BorderTensions
Pakistan has warned Afghanistan that any violation of the 48-hour ceasefire will invite a strong response. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said the agreement began at 6pm on Wednesday after Afghanistan requested it. The minister accused the Afghan Taliban of working against peace and serving India’s interests.
🇵🇰 Rising Tensions Along the Border
Asif stated that the Afghan government is fighting a proxy war on India’s behalf. He said Pakistan’s actions are defensive and aim to protect national security. However, he also mentioned that former US President Donald Trump could mediate the situation if he wishes, as he has done for global ceasefires before.
Border clashes erupted last weekend after Afghan forces opened unprovoked fire in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. In response, Pakistan launched precision strikes on Taliban and militant hideouts in Kandahar and Kabul. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that several Afghan posts were destroyed. As a result, dozens of Afghan soldiers and militants were killed.
Calls for Dialogue and Peace
According to Pakistan’s foreign ministry, the ceasefire followed a request from the Taliban government. Both countries agreed to use this time to hold constructive talks. The ministry urged both sides to find a peaceful solution to their differences.
However, Asif expressed doubt about Afghanistan’s intentions. He said the Taliban seem more interested in escalating the conflict. He also mocked Kabul’s false claims about its military strength, calling them “beyond comprehension.”
Pakistan had earlier shown willingness to hold talks and applied for visas to continue dialogue. In addition, friendly countries encouraged peace talks. But after the recent clashes, Pakistan suspended the process and withdrew its visa applications.
