Prince Andrew Faces Calls to Explain Royal Lodge Lease Before MPs

Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey has urged Prince Andrew to appear before MPs to explain his lease of Royal Lodge. The move comes amid growing calls for greater transparency in royal finances and Crown Estate management.

Calls for Prince Andrew to Face MPs

Royal Lodge, located in Windsor, is leased from the Crown Estate, an organization that operates independently from the royal family. Sir Ed said the matter must be “properly scrutinised” to ensure full accountability for how Crown properties are managed.

Push for Greater Transparency

During a parliamentary session, Sir Ed called for a select committee inquiry into the Crown Estate. He said such an inquiry would help the public understand how royal properties are funded and leased.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer responded by agreeing that “proper scrutiny” was essential for all Crown assets. He added that transparency builds public confidence in the institutions connected to the monarchy.

Public Accountability in Focus

The debate has reignited discussions about the financial independence of royal family members. Many campaigners argue that properties tied to the Crown should face the same level of public oversight as other state assets.
Buckingham Palace has been contacted for comment, but no official response has been made public so far.
As a result, the controversy continues to attract attention, with growing pressure for Prince Andrew to clarify the terms of his lease agreement. Observers say his cooperation with MPs could help restore public trust in how royal properties are managed.
