Xiaomi Car Launch in Pakistan Delayed as China Demand Surges
The long-awaited Xiaomi car launch in Pakistan has been postponed. Air Link Communication confirmed the delay, citing Xiaomi’s growing focus on meeting China’s rising demand for electric vehicles.
During a corporate briefing attended by Topline Securities, Air Link shared that the launch was initially planned for this year. However, due to strong domestic sales in China, Xiaomi is prioritizing production for left-hand drive models first.
As a result, Air Link does not expect the vehicles to arrive in Pakistan anytime soon. The company stated that this shift in focus is temporary and aims to stabilize supply before expanding to right-hand drive markets like Pakistan.
Air Link’s Future Plans
Air Link remains optimistic despite the delay. The company continues talks with the Pakistani government to secure export approvals. Once approved, Air Link expects revenue to grow by more than 200%.
Last year, the Xiaomi SU7 Max electric cars were spotted at Karachi Port, sparking excitement among EV enthusiasts. Air Link’s CEO, Muzzaffar Hayat Piracha, later confirmed importing two units for testing. However, he noted that decisions about local assembly would depend on market conditions and strategic goals.
In addition, Air Link expects better earnings this year. The improvement comes after securing tax exemptions under its relocation to the Sundar Green SEZ facility. The company plans to complete the move by December 2025 or early FY26.
Air Link also has expansion plans beyond Xiaomi. It aims to open Pakistan’s first Apple retail store by the end of 2025, along with a Xiaomi store at Dolmen Mall Lahore.
Furthermore, management revealed plans to onboard another mobile brand and explore new product categories, including air conditioners, washing machines, and microwaves. However, formal agreements for these ventures are still pending.
The delay in Xiaomi’s car launch may be disappointing, but Air Link’s growing partnerships show strong potential for Pakistan’s tech and EV sectors.
