Sindh Confirms 439 Dengue Cases in October as Karachi Leads Outbreak

The Sindh Health Department has confirmed 439 new dengue cases in October, raising the province’s total to 1,083 in 2025. Health experts say dengue, spread by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, continues to be a major public health concern, especially during the monsoon season. Stagnant water and poor sanitation make the situation worse each year.
According to the department, Karachi remains the worst-hit division with 188 cases, followed by Hyderabad with 154. Mirpurkhas reported 83, Sukkur 10, Shaheed Benazirabad three, and Larkana one. However, data from major Karachi hospitals and a public laboratory in Hyderabad suggest that actual cases may exceed 12,000 within six weeks.
Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho said that official data only includes reports from government hospitals. She urged citizens not to trust unverified numbers circulating on social media. “All confirmed cases from hospitals and OPDs are recorded properly,” she explained.

Rising Concerns in Major Cities

Health experts warn that Karachi and Hyderabad are facing a serious dengue outbreak. The Indus Hospital, Liaquat National Hospital, and the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital have together recorded nearly 3,000 cases since September. Hyderabad’s main research labs have confirmed more than 9,000 cases.
Experts believe delayed fumigation and poor drainage are major causes. “Stagnant rainwater is an ideal breeding ground for mosquitoes,” said Dr Mirza Ali Azhar of the PMA.
Government Response and Public Appeal
Dr Pechuho stated that anti-dengue efforts are ongoing across Sindh. Fumigation and drainage work have intensified, and free dengue testing units have been set up in all districts. She urged the public to maintain cleanliness and remove standing water around homes.
