Two Arrested Over Louvre Crown Jewel Theft

French authorities have arrested two suspects linked to the Louvre crown jewel theft in Paris.

Two Arrested Over Louvre Crown Jewel Theft

Officials say one man was caught at Charles de Gaulle Airport while trying to board a flight. The Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed both suspects are now in custody for questioning.
The daring robbery took place last Sunday at the world-famous Louvre museum, which attracts millions of visitors each year. Four masked thieves broke into the museum in broad daylight, using power tools to access a secured display area. They escaped with priceless crown jewels valued at €88 million (£76m; $102m).

A Heist That Shocked France

The theft has sparked outrage and disbelief across France. Many are questioning how such a major security lapse occurred in one of the world’s most protected museums. France’s Justice Minister admitted that security measures had “failed,” calling the incident a “terrible image” for the country.
Investigators are now reviewing CCTV footage and staff records to track the remaining suspects.
Authorities believe the stolen jewels may already be outside France, making recovery efforts difficult.
However, police say international cooperation will play a key role in finding the missing items.
In addition, experts warn that selling the gems will be nearly impossible due to their unique historical value. The Louvre has since tightened security and promised a full review of its protective systems.
Visitors expressed sadness, saying the theft was “a loss for world heritage.” As the investigation continues, officials hope the arrests will lead to the recovery of the jewels and prevent future heists.
